cannot choose word as an html editor

I have a user with windows xp pro ie 6 and office 2000. He is unable to choose word as the default html editor withing IE. I have tried the registry fix in the openwithlist registry subkey but it did not work. Does anyone know of any other fixes than uninstalling and reinstall office. The user is skittish about losing his franklin covey software so I’m trying to avoid a reinstall
