Cannot log onto Hotmail

By miablanco ·
In a peer to peer newtork, using a crossover cable, and running Windows 2000 Professional, one of the computers will not allow log in to Hotmail. All other websites, and e-mail services work; Yahoo, AOL, Juno, etc... but we cannot log in to our Hotmail accounts on the second computer. Both have the same operating system, just recently clean-installed, and both operate on an administrator account. We use a satellite modem, as we are in a rural area.

Any suggestions?

Cannot log onto Hotmail

Question: Can you actually bring up the hotmail.com website? Do you receive an error message when attempting to get to the web page, OR if you can get to the page, only when attempting to log in?

OK, you can get website, but are receiving error on log-in....Can you try logging in from another .NET Passport website (other than hotmail home)? It may be a cookie issue, have you changed your internet security settings lately?

I was able to resolve the issue yesterday by changing the LAN settings under Internet Explorer-Tools-Internet Options-Connection-LAN Settings-Advanced; I changed it to use SAME IP address/Proxy for ALL services, not just http. I had set it to manual Proxy server, because the automatic detection did not work. So by using the IP Address of the computer hooked up to the satellite modem for ALL internet access(http, ftp, secure, socks, etc) was what finally resolved it. Thank you very much for your input it was helpful! It's running smooth now, and I hope it stays this way! Thanks again.

Had a similar problem.
Solved by using OUTLOOK Express (easy setup for Hotmail accounts).

Can you open www.msn.com? If so from there you can go to hotmail.

Or try using this URL http://login.passport.net/uilogin.srf?id=2
instead of
http://hotmail.com
It may look complicated, but you can save it on the desktop. Use the FILE menu of the brower:
file
- send
- shortcut to desktop
Hope it helps

Look in your internet options and check for possible Disallowed sites. Hotmail may be one.

You have not listed the browser used, any firewall or similar software/hardware in use...all of which is pretty important.

As a quick check, have you tried to log on with the first PC disconnected from your peer-to-peer network? i.e , the troublesome PC is directly connected the the satellite modem? If you still have issues, you can focus on the software install.

BTW...hotmail will not work if REFERRER LOGGING IS DISABLED!
