Cannot open Access 2000 database

I received this message when opening a Access 2000 database. The Microsoft Jet Database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time. Nobody else is using the database. I tried toimport the data into a new database with no success. I also tried repairing and compacting the database with no luck.
