Cannot Remove Domain Controller from AD

by musipete . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

Domain controller was removed from domain without running dcpromo & uninstalling AD. Now when trying to delete the object from AD – “The DSA Object Cannot be Deleted”.

I have already done the following:

Following the Q216498 Microsoft KB article, I have cleaned it up using Metadata Cleanup in NTDSUTIL. The server no longer shows up there.

I have successfully removed all traces of the object from AD Sites and Services.

I have removed all traces (that I know of) of the server from DNS.

I have even tried moving the object to ‘lost and found’, then to ‘computers’ containers, then to an OU (as suggested on another site).

Other symptoms:

The DC shows up when using the RRAS MMC, adding server, and browsing the AD (or adding all servers from the domain). This is the only other place I can find it.

Suggestions?…
