Can't access addressbook for Outlook

By niszentirnay ·
Hi

I just updated my computer and installed all the applications including Office 2002. Also I have coppied back all my personal and datafiles to their respective folders.

The contact for the Outlook works fine and all my addresses are there.

When I am trying to send an e-mail and click on the TO: the address book displays a message: "The database could not be displayed at this time" , the same thing happens when I click on the address book icon. I have tried to re-enter all the e-mail addresses in the contacts of Outlook knowing that the address book would be automatically updated, but it didn't.

What else can I do? Please reply

regards,

Nicholas

Right click on the contacts icon and choose properties
Choose the Outlook Address Book Tab and choose the checkbox "Show this folder as an email Address Book"
The name of the address book should be Contacts

It's a pain in the *$&! but you can try this:

Export your Outlook contacts to a MsDos comma separated values txt file. Import that to Outlook Express, and then, from Outlook, import Outlook Express' wab file. If you don't want to mess up OE's wab file with the process, move the original to a safe directory and let OE create a new empty one for the process.

Go into Outlook Tools:Services and remove outlook address book (this will not actually remove you contacts but just the service), shutddown outlook then restart it, goto tools:services again and re-add outlook address book. Under the Addressing tab make sure that the contacts folder is available in all three boxes if not add it. Then right click on contacts folder in the toolbar goto properties and make sure that the outlook address book tab has a check next to show this folder as an email address book. (This may have to be done before you can add it in the addressing tab under Tools:Services)
Hope that works for you.
