Can't add Mailbox in Outlook - Exchange

By esrfalco ·
Using Exchange 5.5 and Outlook 98 and 2000.

We have users that need to access several Exchange Mailboxes at the same time. In Outlook you go to Tools / Services / Exchange / Properties / Advanced, and add the Mailbox. For an increasing number of users, we can't add a Mailbox. Just clicking the "add" button gives this error: "The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed." How do we solve this? This happens on OL98 and OL2k clients.

Start Outlook with a profile configured for the Exchange Server mailbox for account B.You might need to log on to the network as the user of account B for proper validation
Choose Options from the Tools menu
Click Add on the Delegates tab
Type orselect the name of the user account A,click Add,and then click OK
Select editor from all lists in the Delegates Permissions
Click OK
If the folder List is not visible from the View menu, choose Folder List
Right click Mailbox-<User Name>,and thenchoose Properties for Mailbox-<User Name>
Click Add on the Permission Tab
Type or select the name of the user account A,click Add,and then click OK
Click the newly added entry account A in the name box
Select the owner from the Roles list
Repeat step 8 thru 12 for all other folders within the mailbox
Choose Exit and Log off from the File Menu
Restart, and logon as the user account A.
Start Outlook with a profile configured for the Exchange Server mailbox for Account A.

We know how to do the proper procedure that you have stated above. The problem is that the proper procedure does not work.

When we get to the part that is your third sentence from the end ("Click Add on the Advanced Tab") we get the error message "The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed." That is the problem we can't figure out.

First check if the users have given the permision, for there mail box to be shared, and check the Mailbox name, could be mis typed.

I eventually figured it out myself using the Microsoft Tech Net article "Q183015 - XADM Restrictions on ABV Break Mailbox Name Resolution". Thanks anyway.
