Can't find PROI11.MSI

By I_M_Dougie ·
I am trying to apply SP 2 to an install of Office 2003 pro (installed before I got here from a CD I can not identify). When this update begins, it asks for the Office 2003 Professional CD. When I insert it, it tells me it can not find a proper PROI11>MSI. On the CDs I have, there is only PRO11.MSI (no "I").

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a CD with this MSI file?

It sounds as if you have the wrong version of Office 2003 Install CD that you are trying to use as an activation key.

There are several versions of Office and you'll need the correct CD for the install that you have there. If this is a Prebuilt system the chances are that it came slipstreamed on the original Rescue CD.

If you are a in a place with more than 5 copies of Office running then it's possible that you'll need the Volume License Version of that version of Office.

But to get around this problem you can load the Update Software from the MS Update Web Site and using that it will allow you to update Office without a CD but you'll need to perform the download from the Windows Update site and it will apply the required software for office.

It will be slower but may prove the only way around your problem.

I have given the same exact advice to other people. Unfortunately, I can not locate the original CD, this is a 2 year old Dell, which doesn't have Office on the rescue CD, and I did attempt to download the entire service pack and got the same results.

The confusing part is the name of the MSI file. When I search the web for the name proi11.msi, I get a few hits with the same unanswered question as mine. The Microsoft site doesn't even give me a hit, which means this may be an invalid file name.

Do you know of any place that can help me match that name to a specific rollout of Office 2003?

Thank you.

I've used both Volume License and OEM copies of Office 2003 and never run into this problem. But I've always had the correct CD for the update.

I'll throw Office 2003 Pro onto a NB here that I'm using for testing and see what happens and get back to you with the results.

I appreciate the help. I went to all my Office CDs and searched for the proi11.msi and came up empty.

I'm currently in the process of downloading SP2 for Office 11 with Contact Manager and One Note loaded. I'll use a XP Office Volume Licence CD to see what happens.

If worst comes to worst I can copy the file and E-Mail it to you provided that I have the correct version here Currently I have Office 2003 SBE and Pro in OEM and Office XP in Volume License versions easily available to me. I've probably got work copies of others here but I'll have to dig around for them as the clients tend to loose the install CD's so I always keep a copy of any that I don't already have here that way with the Invoice and Work Copies I can easily perform a reload when necessary.

OH by the way you can always click on the Add Comment Button as I've subscribed to this question and will receive notifications of any new postings that you make here.

OK I've just applied SP2 for Office 2003 SBE with a Office XP Volume License CD in the drive and it installed without a problem.

The file you are looking for is PROPLUS. MSI and should be on any of the Office CD's. I would leave the Office CD in the Drive and attempt to install SP2 for Office 2003 and it should work without a problem.

If you have any problems drop me a Peer Mail and I'll E-Mail you the MSI file which is 3.2 MEG in size but it should be on any Office 10 on wards Install CD.

I've just had a look and this file is on the Office XP, Office 2003 SBE & Pro as well as the beta version of Office 12. I used the copy on Office 10 to patch the Office 11 application and it worked perfectly. If it is asking for a different file you most likely have a corrupt download of the SP2 & you'll need to download it again to work from. If you are making a single download to install on multiple computers I would copy this to a USB Flash Drive and put the Office CD in the local CD ROM and install off the USB Drive. Failing that you can mount the CD into a Networked Drive and push out the update from the server but every computer that you want to install this too will have to have access to the CD ROM where the Office CD is or you could just copy the PORPLUS.MSI file to the Office SP2 directory and push it out that way.
