Cant open excel attachment Outlook 2003

By pfeldsien ·
I am currently running windows 2000 pro with office 2003 basic. When reading email using outlook 2003 with an excel attachement I am unable to open the exel file. When you dbl click on the attachement excel tries to reinstall. All other attachments work fine. You can save the exel file to disk and open it. How can I resolve this? Any help would be appreciated.

And when Excel tries to reinstall, does it succeed and open the file or does it ask for the installation disk or does it just bomb?

1)Tries to load not asking for CD and eventually bombs out.

Is Word the default email viewer?
Did you try a repair of Office already?
Wonder if its something in the users profile..can you recreate the users profile or login as someone else to test it?

Can't open excel either!!
Saw your post and mine is very similiar; only we use WinXPPro with Office XP and I get an error message "can not write to this folder,,,,,". The person has the necessary permissions on the folder. This user gets an excel doc daily. It comes to him and several others. Everyone else is able to open the attach with no problem. I applied answers 3,4 & 5 but they didn't help. Answer 2: Word is the default viewer. I did a repair of MS Office and this fixed the problem.
