Can't open excel file through excel

I have a user that cannot open an excel file through excel. She has the excel file linked to powerpoint. Through powerpoint she can open the excel file. Could someone help me out? Thank you

Sure...what has happened is the file associations have gotten messed up. You didn't mention her OS, but if its a variant of windows this should help.

Open My Computer. Go under the view menu to options, then to file types. Find the type of excel document you are opening (XLS, XLD, etc). it will be associated with Powerpoint. Click edit to change it back to opening with Excel.

I believe for most of the office file types if you delete them then open the appropriate office application it will reassociate them also...

What happens if you open Excel then try file, open (with Files of type "all" showing) and you select the file. Does it open okay then?

All other excel files can open up with no problem. It is this particular file that is not opening up. I have tried to open it up locally on the desktop. The file origonally was residing on a server, which it still does. The file opens up when using powerpoint. Hope this helps. Thank you.
