Can't open .htm files

By drsstew ·
OTHER THAN association, what could be preventing me from opening a .htm file with IE 6? Normal web pages open normally....but when I click on a link to a .htm file I get the blank white box with the red 'x' in the top right-hand corner. Any/all suggestions would be appreciated.

It may be a coded page

by Deadly Ernest In reply to Can't open .htm files

I often have problems with web pages turning up as a blank page, the pages is .htm or .html. But when you check the code I find that is all Java or JavaScript code. I have these disabled as it is easy to hide nasty code in such pages and my AV can't check it.

The little box with the square usually indicates a image or image style file belongs there. So this could also be an image (and you don't have 'show images' turned on by default) or it could be an image style file that needs a plug in to run it - like a Flash file and you don't have Flashplayer installed, or a Real Media file and Real Media is not installed.

With so many graphic design dickheads pretending to be web page designers by using crap tools that do the actual work you could end up with almost anything as a web page.

Next time you get such a page check its source code - (ight click on page and click on 'View page source' and see what they think they are doing.
