cant ping the netbios name of my domain

By lgald ·
Guys, I was wondering if anyone knows how to resolve this. I brought up a new test forest / domain at work. It is a 2003 forest, 2003 domain. The fqdn is test.domain.domainname.gov. When prompted for the netbios name, I entered testdomain. My understanding now is that ADPromo uses the leftmost part of the name up to the first . to use. I can ping " test" and it resolves to test.domain.domainname.gov. However, I've read that you can create an alias record for testdomain that will point it to "test". Is this correct and if so, how can I do this? If I cant get this to resolve, i'm going to have to rebuild the forest as my company is making a huge deal out of not being able to ping the netbios name testdcfs even though I have no errors in DNS. I have also created primary AD integrated zone for test.dcfs.lacounty.gov and reverse lookup zones for every subnet that I have DC at with PTR records. Thx all
