cant ping the netbios name of my domain

By lgald ·
Guys, I was wondering if anyone knows how to resolve this. I brought up a new test forest / domain at work. It is a 2003 forest, 2003 domain. The fqdn is When prompted for the netbios name, I entered testdomain. My understanding now is that ADPromo uses the leftmost part of the name up to the first . to use. I can ping " test" and it resolves to However, I've read that you can create an alias record for testdomain that will point it to "test". Is this correct and if so, how can I do this? If I cant get this to resolve, i'm going to have to rebuild the forest as my company is making a huge deal out of not being able to ping the netbios name testdcfs even though I have no errors in DNS. I have also created primary AD integrated zone for and reverse lookup zones for every subnet that I have DC at with PTR records. Thx all
