I’m installing a few WinXP Pro clients in an NT domain with a WINS server and DHCP. On these new clients, only members of the local (not Domain) Administrators group can resolve NetBIOS names. Even a simple ping takes about a minute before it figures out the IP (I’m assuming by broadcast). Put the same user in the Administrators group, and all is fine. Take them out, and back to the problem. Even the Power Users group does not work. Only Administrators. These are on clean installs and on multiple machines (which rules out hardware – although since pattern follows user groups, I think hardware could not be blamed).
Anyone have any ideas?
