Can't stay connected to the internet

By hacbmis ·
3 PC's wont stay connected to the internet. 1 PC is win95. the other 2 are win98. They stay connected to the LAN and can see what they need to. But you have to restart the PC to gain access to the internet. What is the sulotion to this problem?

Check your cable connections to make sure they are inserted in the NIC properly and that their is no interference

Check the NIC cards to make sure they have the updated driversf and neither of the cards is having a problem

Check the internet connections configuration to see if it set to disconnect after a certian period of time being idle and uncheck the box.

This is a T1 connection. There are no timeouts. drivers are most resent. And these PCs stay connected to the servers on the LAN with no problem.

We'll need a lot more information to help here. What kind of internet connection to you have? Are you using a modem, a router, server, ICS, etc to share the access. Are you using any kind of address translation or VPN software? Does the connection stop after a consistant ammount of time or variable? About how long? Please give us as many details as possible including any error messages, if you can ping the loop-back, the server, an ip address on the web, etc...

I'll be glad to try to help!

Make sure the power management scheme is set so the disks do not power down or go to standby. Same for the CPU.

Check the available resources on the affected computers. You will probably find that they are all low as we all know how well windows manages memory, not. These are workstation specific problems and might check in control panel and system and set computer type as network and boost virtual memory if possible and retry.
