CASE Inquiries

by Dilbert! In reply to CASE Inquiries

CASE tools are useful once you understand how to use them. The advantage of using such tools is that teh resulting project will be well structured, well documented and hopefully produce a solution that is easy to maintain.

The down side is that there are decisions to be made (which tool to choose), training to go through to fully understand how to use the tool and then the first project using a tool is usually a bit slow owing to not quite being sure as to what to do next. On the plus sidethough - once you have mastered all of this the long term benefit is better documentation and visibility of how the software functions.
The issue to myself is when it comes to introducing new players into an existing project team. If I wish to hire someone without the understanding of CASE tools then I have to plan (and fund) training before they are of any value to the project. However they then understand our software probably quicker than using more traditional document based methods.I hope that this helps!
