CD-R as DVD burner

By ChrisMS ·
Has anyone else recieved an e-mail or seen adverts for some software that can transform your CD burner into a DVD burner, allowing you to back up data, movies and also puting old VHS tapes onto DVD. I had a look at the site, www.copydvd.net, but i'm still not convinced this can be done.
Has anyone used this software, or seen the results?
Is it true?
Is it worth it?
Cheers all
:-)

CD-R as DVD Burner

by ed.jaegers In reply to CD-R as DVD burner

I beleive that it is just burning video in the DVD format on a CD-R. This results in far less usable time since a CD-R has much smaller data capacity, but allow the disk to be played in a DVD player.

it uses Divx - which is free

Its just taking the image of a DVD and compressing it using a compression format called Divx and then burning it on to a vcd. if your player supports vcd then it will work, but if it does not, then you can't view it. There is plenty of info about this on the net and you can download all the tools you need for free.

I have seen a movie that was burnt onto 2 cd's (Payback with Mel Gibson). It played under Windows Media Player. No loss of quality as far as I can tell from DVD. I have no idea how it was done.
