CD rom not recognized

I have thinkpad R30 which I changed the HD from working T23 thinkpad after formating the HD into the R30,I tried to install win xp pro. but the cd is not recognized through the BIO'S,the HD is good and working fine on the t23.
Is there any way i can make the bio's to recognized the cd,i have tried to press F2 and dell at boot but all I get is blank screen with flashing cursor which you cant do anything with.please help

I would remove the CD ROM drive

and see if you can get into BIOS and reset it to 'factory defaults'

then power-down, and reinstall the cd-rom.

if bios cannot see it, either the bios is corrupt (which the above step may fix), the CD-Rom drive is faulty, or the system board of the unit is bad.

Will the CD-rom drive open if you push the eject button? That will tell you if it's getting power or not.

sorry to all who reply to my thread but I had no email confirm any answer plus Iam new to the site.
I have tried the factory setting F9 and the power is going through the unit and tried pushing the F2 and dell at start with no joy
