cd-rw only available to admin group w2k

By joeb ·
I have a w2k network with cd-rw drives that are only available to use if you are part of the administrators group. Tried this in a lab situation and got the same result. HAve tried differant software and still the same. Looks to be a policy problem, but where?

If I am understanding your question correctly, you have a CDRom tower or some such device that you want to make available to the users on the network (to all users not just the administrators). I beleive that you need to define the CDRom device as ashare and provide access through sharing. Hope this helps.

No, these are local cd-rw drives on local machines that if the loggged on user is a member of the administrators group can access the cd-rw. If you remove the user from the admin. group when they log back on they can't access the drive.

If you have a domain, try this.....

Add the users that you wish to have access to the CD-RW to the domain power users group. Then place the domain power users group in the power users group on the local machine.

This has solved similar problems for me.

If this dosen't work, place the users domain account in the local administrators account.
