change computer name

By artzelda ·
I want to change the name of my computer and I can't find the registry setting that controls this. Everytime I need to register something the name of the computer manufacturer pops up - Gateway. How do I change it to my name?

When you go to start, run, regedit, click on the plus sign for Hkey_Local_Machine, then click on another plus sign for the "system folder" and click the plus sign for a folder named "Computer Name" there should be something that may say something like "Oem computer". If you want to make changes to this key, select it and right click and click Modify.
Once you have made the changes, you can exit.

Word to the wise: Whenever making changes to the registry, ALWAYS make sure to do a backup, just in case something goes wrong in the future.

Hopefully this suggestions helps!
