Change resolution in console mode

By Gigelul ·
I use Slackware 8 on a notebook and I wish to have a high resolution (1024x768)when I work in console mode (not XWindows or other graphic interface). The VGA card is ATI Radeon.

Thank you.

Change resolution in console mode

I'm not sure I understand your question but look into the frame buffer device driver (fbdev).

This may be what you're looking for.

If all the needed software is already on your system (depends on what version of XFree86 you have), you can pass an option to the kernel during boot to test it out.

Put this in your XF86config file:

Section "Device"
Identifier "FBDev"
Driver "fbdev"
EndSection

And add this to your kernel line (or options line) in Grub or lilo:
vga=791

Hope this helps,

Bob

Hi R.E.C.
I need high resolution when booting and also in console mode (prompt). Your suggestions don't have any efect (I don't need to start the "startx").
Maybe you can give me more details (step by step).
Thank you

It works but after I run "make menuconfig" to add VESA frame buffer support.
