Changing Licensed to in Office

By jbelleisle ·
I saw an artical but did not save it. It was how to change the "Licensed To" name in Office 2000
We have had some changes in the company and instead of uninstalling and reinstalling Office I would just like to reconfigure it to fit the new user. How do I change the name the product is licensed to. This is a Win98 SE OS.

If you go into the registry (regedit.exe ALWAYS BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN EDITING THE REGISTRY), start at 'My Computer' and do 'Edit > Find'. Search for the old name (the one you want to replace). When it comes upon a match (usually one for every program installed), right-click on the value and choose 'Modify' and change the name to the current user. If you do this throughout the registry, it should change the names O2K uses to display license info.

You can do it through the registry but if you only want to change the user name then.....Open Word, go to Tools > Options > User Information and edit the name there.
