Check disk on 250 Gigabyte volumes

I have several instances of a WinNt server with 250 Gigabyte storage volumes (raid 5) initiating Checkdisk at every re start.
The trouble is that the procedure is long winded and that on several occasions Checkdisk and the repair job that follows take more than a week-end. As the servers have to be online on Monday morning the repair jobs are often interrupted.

Does anyone know of a Checkdisk equivalent that is more efficient and quicker than Microsoft’s built in package?
