CHECK OUT THE TECHREPUBLIC COMMUNITY'S BIGGEST FEATURE RELEASE EVER!

Last Thursday, we rolled out our biggest feature deploy in the history
of the TechRepublic Community Project. First up, we created a new
top-nav for large portions of the TechRepublic site, which allows you
to access Community features like My Discussions from the most popular
sections on TR.

Second, we rolled out the much-requested Blog Door--also featured in
the new top-nav--which showcases the most popular and newest TR blogs
in the same fashion that the Discussion Door tracks Hot and New
discussion threads.

The granddaddy of them all, however, is a new feature called Links,
which you can access by clicking My Links in the new top-nav. Links is
very similar to our old Favorites functionality; however, it has been
updated to take advantage of our nigh-ubiquitous tagging system.

We think Links will be useful to our members because it provides a
single location in which to maintain all of your IT bookmarks. So if
you aren't at your PC, you can still access your Links from any PC with
an internet connection.

The Link collection that our members build will be useful to the
community at large. Each member is basically contributing to a large
collection of the best IT resources. Unlike a Google search, a search
of the Links feature is filtered through the collective wisdom of our
members.

So, take Links for a spin and let us know what you think. Over the next
couple of weeks, we plan to make additions to this feature including a
Links door where members can search by tag, browse the most popular
links, and see the most popular tags.

Got a comment, question, complaint, or kudos for the TechRepublic
community team? Post it in this discussion.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: STRESS JUNKIE

Some may question why TechRepublic member STRESS JUNKIE deserved the
ol' Member Spotlight, since his profile is as empty as a box of
Krispy Kremes after a TR staff meeting. Simple: he was the first member
to jump on the Links bandwagon, so we'll shine a little newsletter
light on the JUNKIE for being ahead of the curve.

TAG, YOU'RE IT: WINDOWS

Turns out, this whole Windows operating system fad has really caught
on, which is why the windows tag is so very, very popular.

DVD BURNER COULD NOT BURN CDR
You know something's fishy when your DVD burner throws a "could not
perform fixation" error. Help TechRepublic member WAKIM wade through
his error logs to find out why he can't get his optical media burner
to accept a CD-R disk.

LAST WEEK'S MOST ACTIVE DISCUSSIONS

WHAT TO DO? TALK ABOUT CARRYING THE FLAG!!!
TechRepublic member R.YOUNG is stuck in that classic psychosocial
conundrum: "Am I being paranoid, or is the entire organization out to
get me?" Well, the formal complaint to HR is probably a clue that
it's not all in your head. See how R.YOUNG is handling the tension in
this very heated discussion thread.

"TOO HOT FOR TR"

The following discussions were sufficiently non-technical or
controversial to be suppressed from the Hot and New Discussions lists.

THE COST OF HEALTH CARE IN THE USA IS SO EXPENSIVE BECAUSE...
According to TechRepublic member MAXWELL EDISON, the answer to this
question is "someone else pays for it," and he advocates something
akin to an abolition of Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance as a
salve for this fiscal wound. As you might imagine, many TR members took
issue with that tactic, and another classic "Too Hot" discussion
thread quickly emerged.
