    Cleaning PC Help

Haven’t properly cleaned my desktop computer in a while. Just looking for some tips on cleaning it. I plan on using compressed air for most of the cleaning, but other than that I’m at a loss. Which components should I mainly be focusing on?

The other thing to be sure of.

Remove power. Not just turn off, unplug.

Usually it’s enough to hit the vents, fans and heatsinks. Lots of YouTubes about this.

One last thing. NEVER spin up fans to thousands of RPMs with the canned air.

Hey thanks very much. I thought about looking on youtube, just wanted to get some opinions from people here first. Canned air won’t damage major components right? Or are there parts of things I should avoid?

          Canned air if mis-used.

Don’t spin the fans too hard.
          Don’t FREEZE things with it.

Turning it upside down is when the freezing occurs right? Just making sure because I have A LOT of stuff on this system and would lose it if I lost anything. But thanks for the help, I really do appreciate it.

Not wanting to lose it is a perfect reason to maintain a backup. Nowadays, that’s a copy in the cloud and/or on an external hard disk stored elsewhere.

As we say here: you only lose what you didn’t backup.
And what Murphy says: it happens on the worst possible moment.

Tips for Cleaning Your Desktop PC

      by dwestbrook383 ·

      Hi,

Here are the key components to focus on when cleaning your PC:

Fans and Heatsinks: Use compressed air to clear dust from case fans, CPU coolers, and the power supply fan.
Graphics Card: Blow out dust from the GPU fans and vents.
Motherboard: Gently clean the surface and connectors with compressed air.
Power Supply Unit (PSU): Clean the fan and vents. Avoid opening it unless necessary.
Case Interior: Remove dust buildup inside the case.
Filters: Wash or replace dust filters in the case.

Make sure to disconnect the PC from power and hold the fans in place while using compressed air to avoid damaging them.
