Clearing start/run list in NT and Win 98

    Locked

    by mukul_gandhi ·

I run lot of commands from start/run option in NT server/workstation and Win 98/95. A long list of commands pile up in the dropdown available here. Is there any way to clear this list manually or from some place in windows management options ?

    regards

There are utilities like Winhacker that can do it for you (www.winhacker.com), or you can do it manually by running regedit, and go to HK-Current User, Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU where you can delete them.

The program I use to do this is Webroot’s “Window Washer” Available for a free trial at http://www.webroot.com
Many options, one of which is to clear all Windows drop down lists!

Hi, IE washer is a small, fast ultility available from http://www.webroot.com. It will clear start/run,clean up cookies, clean up office tracks and you can add “bleach” to the wash as an added security precaution (cleans up netscape as well as IE explorer as well). It runs around $25 but you can download a trial version to try before you buy. Again, although it does many things, it is very fast and can be configured to run at startup, shutdown, or only when you decide manually. Hope this helps.

I would write down one of the commands in the list, then run Regedit (not RegEdit32) then Edit menu, find and type in your command. I found mine under CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\currentversion\Explorer\RunMRU I guess that means Run Most recently used.

Use the power tool tweak ui. If not installed it’s a free download.com. Under the paranoia tab the first option is clear the run history at login. Check the box and logoff and back on and the run history will be cleared.
