Compaq Laptop Won’t Use External DNS

by artcabot . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

I’ve got an older Compaq laptop freshly-loaded with Win98se, connected to the company network and it simply will NOT use the DNS provided by our routers for Internet connection. I can ping by name when our local DNS provides resolution and I can ping Internet sites by IP address. I’ve tried both a Compaq Netelligent 10/100 and a Xircom 10/100 PC card and have tried configuring both fixed IP and DHCP (both configurations that we have elsewhere on the network). Gateway is our Cisco to our privateframe relay network and there’s a path through it to the DSL router we use for Internet (which allows Internet connection for every other machine on the network).

Does anybody have any idea what might be happening?
