Compaq-XP Pro is frying processors left and right-Any ideas?

by ctos . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

I have an older Compaq EN running XP Pro. Works like a charm as a rule, but lately it fries processors after running around 12 hours.
I had upgraded the processor, the system would not boot at all, simply flashed red lights on the front of the tower. I changed back down in processor number, simply flashed red at me again. I put in the original processor and it ran about 12 hours and then flashed at me in red again, with the system shutting down. I have put another processor to see if this will solve the issue that is lower than the original and noted that the fan on the power supply AND the processsor both do not work. The last orginal processor quit and I noted that the processor area was quite warm and the fan had never turned on. I tried changing the fan, but it never starts either.
I have read other similar issues here on TR, and I noted items about CMOS and Bios flashing. I have done both of those recently, with BIOS flash first followed by CMOS.
What can I do to get the fans to work, I presume the power supply will have to be replaced to get it working, but the Processor fan? Another fan? Another connection? Anything else? I am running out of processors….lol
