Does it crash 'without warning' when doing something specific?

Like maybe playing a game?

Your machine DOES detect 512MB of RAM - the disparity is due to your onboard 64MB graphics, which may be the cause of your problem, depending on what you are doing when it crashes.

Now that you know why the RAM is different

How did you reinstall Windows?

Was it a new clean install or an In Place Install. If it was an In Place Install you have only papered over the obvious problems.

As you have done the obvious Hardware things have you tried a Live Linux to run from the Optical Drive? I would suggest trying one of these and running the machine for several hours to see if it falls over if it doesn't then you know that you have a Software problem. If it continues to fall over you then know that you have a Hardware problem and have cut down your wasted time by a vast amount.

You can go to your local New Agent and but a Mag with a Linux Cover Disk of download a copy from here
