Computer (CPU?) Running Very Slow.
HELP!! I'll try to make this short... Grandson spilled water on my Toshiba Satellite A135, Intel DUO @ 1733 MHz,Vista Home Basic SP2, 2M RAM.
It shorted out the CMOS battery, yet after running several diagnostics, only ???reported' error is the ???Real Time Clock???. No problem, I can set the clock when needed and I've not yet worked up the will (courage) to open the thing and replace battery!
Problem is the computer (CPU(s)?) speed SLOOOOW. Just to get the task bar to raise from hiding takes close to two seconds, opening Firefox, 35 SECONDS! Even the mouse is slow and music, system sounds, video...forget it. Now the curious part, that was three weeks ago and after using the slow computer, and I mean Pentium, 256k, Windows 3.11 slow, it slowly returned to normal speed, pun intended. FYI ??? Task Manager and Resource Monitor do not show any excessive CPU usage, ???100% Maximum Frequency,??? although the ???refresh??? rate on both is slow also.
Because I am a glutton for punishment I guess, I downloaded and burned to CD Version 4 of ???MemTestx86??? using ???Image Burn???. Immediately after burning the CD, the computer RETURNED to Slow Motion! I ram MemTestx86 and after 3 full passes, no errors and clock speed was reported @1.73GHz.
Any advice, suggestions or just comment will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Robert G.
