Computer Room Temperature

By kathleenn ·
I work for a small non-profit. With the latest concerns about energy, management wants to know what is the ideal temperature for a 510 square foot computer room with 7 stand alone PC's. Any suggestions or where I could find information would be great!

from the computer's point of view...

...the cooler the better, as long as condensation is not an issue.
I assume these are workspaces and people need worked into the equation, though. An even, consistant temperature and humidity are good, as much as possible.

PCs aren't as picky, thankfully

Basically, if it's comfortable for your users, the PCs can handle it. As far as load for the air conditioning equipment, most HVAC companies have formulas they use for calculating in the heat output of office equipment. In the "perfect world," a consistent temperature is ideal for computer equipment.

I too have worked in non-profit and have maintained equipment when the air conditioning went out. On mini and mainframes, I've never had trouble at 80 degrees, and only once shut things down at 85. Humidity is of course a factor. I've also seen people typing with gloves on their hands and parkas - the computers didn't mind the temperature.
