Configure Command Prompt

By BuJoDa ·
Is there any way to configure command prompt in a different color than the color of the subsequent command input in W2k. Am only allowed to change all text and/or backgrougnd in Colors tab in Console Windows Properties. (I recall there was a way to do this in MS DOS)

Configure Command Prompt

Yes, you can do this in Win2000 the same way as you did with MSDOS (in fact, you use the same file).

Find on your local hdd, the file: ANSI.SYS

Then add the following to CONFIG.SYS:
device=c:\winnt\system32\ansi.sys
(but replace the "\winnt\system32" with the path to your ansi.sys file.

Then when you boot, the program is loaded into memory.

From this point you use the configuration options with ansi sys in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and essentially need to setup your prompt with the color codes you like.

The below link contains all the escape code sequences and color codes that you'll need in order to configure ansi.sys to your liking:

Anna777's comments are helpful. The link to the escape code sequences and color codes is especially appreciated.

BTW... Doesn't Win2k use autoexec.nt in place of autoexec.bat?
