Configuring monitor on red hat 8.0

By apacase ·
This is my first installation of linux, I must of made a mistake, What appears on the screen looks like thousands of tiny screens running fast in many rows. I must of set the refresh rate incorectlly or something like that. How do I edit the settings for the monitor, short of reinstalling???

1. Use the linux boot disk that created during installation ( if you didn't skip it ). Boot to singer user mode by entering "linux -s" at the boot prompt.
2. Run Xconfigurator, that will lead you to the X setup and from there you can reconfigure your monitor.

If you need further assitance post additional comment

If you have no boot disk, insert CD 1 onto the drive, and type 'linux rescue' to start the installer in rescue mode. The installer will appear at first to be doing a reinstallation, but after a few questions about your language selection, it'll mount your Linux partition containing the root directory under /mnt/sysimage (a temporary directory created in RAM). Type 'cd /mnt/sysimage/etc', then 'vi inittab'. Change the line (near the top) which reads 'id:5:initdefault' to 'id:initdefault', savethe file, and reboot. When your system reboots, it'll drop you in console mode rather than GUI mode. Run Xconfigurator, change the monitor type, then modify '/etc/inittab' by changing the 3 back to a 5 to boot into GUI mode.

Hope this helps.
