Connect to Internet thru cradle & LAN

    Locked

    by esrfalco ·

I have a Palm Vx on a cradle connected to my PC, which is connected to the company’s LAN. I can use the modem over an analog line to dial into the LAN and get an Internet connection that way. How could I connect using the LAN through the Palm cradle?

You can connect through your LAN via programs like advantgo. Great program, you can get it from http://www.advantgo.com

I already have AvantGo. That still requires the use of a Connection set up in Preferences, with settings and/or script. That’s the type of detailed info I need. Thanks anyway.

What are you trying to connect to when you are on the lan? Are you trying to sync your data over the lan or just get online information onto your palm?

I’m trying to gain access to the Internet through the Palm (as you wrote, “get online information”). I have one application in particular that is written in such a way that it won’t synch with the rest of the programs, it must make its own special connection to a server to download data updates.

It doesn’t matter how you connect to the internet you have to have the proper setup in the palm that will go out to the server that you are trying to get information from. Avanto is just one type of service. There is also Vindigo, E-procrates etc. Each one will have to be set up individually to sync with there own server. You should try the web site if you are unwilling to provide the actual name of the software.

I’m closing the question because the situation has been overtaken by events. I looked closely in the documentation for the utility (Oanda’s FXPilot, a currency converter), and found that if I reinstalled the app carefully, it would create a custom link through HotSync to get currency updates that way, rather than the direct dial method I was using (which works, but is cumbersome and inelegant). Thanks for dealing with my confusion.
