Consider cross-training to prepare for vacations

How does your organization deal with the workload left by employees on vacation? Do you have a set policy, or do you deal with it on a case-by-case basis? Have you addressed this issue in your disaster recovery plan? Share your comments about about adequately preparing for staff vacations, as discussed in the June 8 Disaster Recovery e-newsletter.

Backup support for any time, not just vacations

You need to ensure you have a backup plan for each key employee. Whether it is to get an outside consultant until you have hired an adequate replacement, etc. Regardless of the time period, you need to ensure you can provide quality support during the whole year. What happens if a key employee leaves - you only have a plan for summer vacation?
You must make sure that you have access to replacement resources all the time.
