Constant FTP Disconnects

By BorgInva ·
What is it that causes me to loose connection with any FTP site after awhile? Whether I send dozens of little files or large ones, I get timeouts. I watch my files up/download fine, then they slow down and stop and I get timeout errors. I have tried 2 FTP clients and connections into 4 different FTP sites of people and businesses I know. Sometimes it timesout but I still stay connected in the FTP site.
This has been happening for months and I just moved into a brand new construction home, new jacks, and my connection (according to TimeWarner) is spotless and clean at (supposedly) 5M down and 300+k up.
Even with Windows explorer. If I VPN into a site and start copying/pasting, after awhile, it timesout. My VPN conenction is still active but the transfer failed.

Just a total shot in the dark here, but the TCP/IP settings might need to be tweaked. Try the following and let me know if it works for you:

Registry tweaks:

HKLM/SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize="256960"

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
TcpWindowSize="256960"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
Tcp1323Opts=0

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
DefaultTTL="64"

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
EnablePMTUDiscovery="1"

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
EnablePMTUBHDetect="0"

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
SackOpts="1"

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
TcpMaxDupAcks="2"

HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000020
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000020

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000020
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000020

Believe it or not, I have not had a chance to try this, but I am giving you the points anyway. I will still try it sometime. Just have not used FTP in weeks now.
