Contract Pros and Cons

By Its a secret ·
My current employer wants to pay for me to get cert. They want me to sign a contract for two years,(training+passing+two years). What would be some good counter points for me to ask for? What are some things I should whatch out for? I do not want tobe locked into the same salary for 2+ years either. Signing bonus... I do not want to turn them off as well. I realize it is give and take.

Contract Pros and Cons

You don't mention what Certification you are talking about so it makes answering your question difficult. How much (per hour) would it cost your employer to retain the services for a MCSE, MCSE, or MCDBA? How much for a MPS (or product specialist)? They demand different $, and you may offer to sign a one year contract. Assuming you are bright enough to pay attention and pass you might assume $1,600 - $2,000 per certification training course and the MCSE and/or MCSE take 3 or 4 depending on what you already know??? MPS takes 1. Figure out the difference between what your employer would have to pay a certified person and yourself. Figure out how much the employer must spend getting you certified and subtract the answers. Does the twoyears begin the day you sign the agreement or the day you get certified??? BIG DIFFERENCE! No matter what my friend - get Certified!
