Control of email sending

I have several clients who use Exhange for internal email in the office. They also have email accounts setup on an isp somewhere. Sometimes when they try to email from within an application the program insists on sending it through the exhange server and it comes back undeliverable. Is there any way to fix that and make emails go through the isp account instead?
