Question

Locked

control panel gone

By luckywhip ·
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This is the Restrictions notice that comes up when checking properties, opening control panel (before it disappeared),- even when signed in as administrator. Can anyone please help me find my control panel?
Thank you.

Go to Widows Downloads and download...........

by sleepin'dawg In reply to control panel gone

Windows SteadyState. Install and configure it accordingly. Then reboot in safe mode and try using system restore.

If that works download CCleaner and clean your registry, making sure you do a backup first. Then defrag your HDD. Somewhere in there you'll probably find your control panel is back.

You could also try using Search "contol panel" before you do anything - either in regular or safe mode.

What was your solution?

by jason_puma In reply to control panel gone

I am having this same behavior on my XP machine. I got this same message when trying to get to the control panel, and now I can't even find the control panel, it's gone!

What did you do to resolve if anything?

Thanks for any help.

I am having this same behavior on my XP machine. I got this same message when trying to get to the control panel, and now I can't even find the control panel, it's gone!

Control Panel was missing from the start menu too.

I know I had some spyware infecting things because I got a message the kept appearing, that was trying to look like a windows message. it read :

"Warning! Potential Spyware Operation!

Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and internet files. Run full scan now to prevent an unathorised access to your files.Click YES to download spyware remover ..."

The misspelling of the 2nd unathorised is how this message actually appears. I have tried running spybot S&amp but this message still appears.
