Convert Wordperfect to Word

By wcp ·
A friend of mine has WordPerfect 8.0 (soon 11) and another has MS Word (Office 2000 and soon XP).
They e-mail each other and want to know if there is a way to convert WordPerfect to Word or vice versa.

Any suggestion or recommendation?

Only way for them outside of purchasing some 50 USD program is to start "saving as" their documents in Rich Text Format (.RTF).

This will allow any word processing document to be read by any means or program.

Since they both are locked into their programs, I suggest that when they wish to share a document that they use the save as function and select a compatible file type.

In my experience, Word Perfect does a better job of importing Word documents than Word does of importing WP documents.

The problem that the WP 8 user is having is that the Word user is running a newer version of Word than WP 8 was designed for.

Make sure that the WP user has the latest updates installed.

Use Word to open the .wpd file. In my recent experience, that works much better than if you use WordPerfect's Save As. As Chas (I think) mentions, WP only offers older versions of Word under that Save As File Type list - Word 6 or Word for Windows and such. It is a crying shame that these files aren't more share-able between the apps, but that's why they're separate and proprietary, I guess. They don't want us to be sharing them back and forth.
