Converting from Wordperfect - Word 2000

By t_cradduck ·
We are in the process of fazing out Corel and going to MS. However, there have been some problems with our converted files. We have been using the MS batch conversion to convert WP files to Word and it has gone well. The trouble is when we open the file in Word, occasionally, the document will open as "read only". This does not happen every time only occasionally. It also appears to be only the users who are currently using the Windows 2000 server, with the Novell client. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks.

When I was involved in this type of conversion we did not use the "batch" conversion. Users open the WP file with Office 2k and then when they saved it save it to an Office 2k document. We found it to work fine this way although some formatting was lost in the conversion. If memory serves me, the read only status was something the user had put to the document when they saved it in WP.

By not using the batch conversion only files the user really need are converted. The WP files will always be there and can be opened when needed.
