Copy data files from W98 to W2K computer

By biknnut1@att. net ·
My W98 computer will not boot to windows. I can see the data in DOS mode (i.e. Word docs, Quicken files). I do have backup of drive BUT do not really want to put JAZ on my W2K unless necessary as I don't want to restore all W98 files to my W28 computer. Best approach?? Can I Ghost W98 drive and selectively put on W2K computer?

if you say you can access the drive, why not put the drive in your other machine?

Ghost 2001 will allow you to image from partition to partition. If your data files are already separated in their own partition on the Win98 drive, you should be able to construct a partition on the W2K drive (as long as it's not a RAID setup)to receive the image by using the partition to partition option. However, if your Win98 drive is only a single partition (system and data files together) you lose this option.

In that case, as mentioned in the previous post, I'd also recommend that you install the Win98 drive as either Primary Slave or Secondary Master, whichever is more easily accommodated on your W2K system, run HD detection in BIOS if necessary, and you should be able to see the Win98 drive to copy over the files you desire. Good luck.
