Copy in-use files from sick hard drive

by makeitso . Updated 23 years, 6 months ago

Hi All,
I have discovered that my backup software does not back up certain files – the log gives a sharing violation error – while backing up the W2K system disk (C:\). Now I have an at risk system disk and I am trying to copy the files manually onto a new drive but get the same error. The files are as follows:

\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\default
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\default.LOG
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\SAM
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\SAM.LOG
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\SECURITY
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\SECURITY.LOG
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\SYSTEM.ALT
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\software
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\software.LOG
\\server1\c\WINNT\system32\config\system

There are a bunch of other files too, but these appear to be mostly logs.

Does anybody know a way to copy these files before my sick drive dies? Also does anybody know of a backup solution that will completely back up the system disk?

Thanks.
