Corel Linux & Netscape 6

By CBB ·
I have a box running RH 6.0 Linux and I downloaded and installed Netscape 6.0, but I can't get it to run from a shortcut/icon on the desktop ( running KDE 1.1 ).

But if I open a terminal screen change to the /packages dir and run ./netscape, the program starts and runs great. But from an icon/shortcut a click or doubleclick yealds nothing, at all.

Am I doing something wrong, correction what am I going wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried posting at www.linuxnewbie.org? I have found their postings quite helpful, also. Not looking for points, but I just downloaded Netscape, too and have an earlier version running until I install the newer one. Good luck!

The packages/netscape script looks for some files in the current direktory.

You must cd into the directory first. I don't know if that is possible in KDE, you could try "cd /pacages;./netscape"

You can also make a shellscript, and make the shortcut go to that script. The script could look like this:
#!/bin/sh
cd /package
./netscape $@

Set the shortcut to "sh <script name>" or "<script name>" (if you have made it executable).
