Most likely the HDD is on the way out ...

Whenever a file or directory is reported as Corrupted and Unreadable, it usually means that the data surface(s) of the hard drive are beginning the slow process of dying due to amount of use and/or old age.

You could try typing CHKDSK /R into the 'Run' box and allowing the system to check the hard disk for errors at the next boot. Once the system has started this process DO NOT INTERRUPT IT until it has finished checking the hard disk.

If any data is recoverable, it will be moved to a secure area of the hard disk during this process.

The scan may however, highlight other areas of corruption on the hard disk. You should consider the possibility of purchasing a new hard drive in the near future and transferring your data across to it before you lose any more.
