    COUNTING CONDITIONAL FORMATTING

    Locked

    by admguy ·

I have a spreadsheet where certain cells change color (background color changes to yellow) based the results of conditional formatting. I now have a need to count these cells.

I could insert a new column next to each existing column and have excel create a value based on IF statements and then use COUNTIF to count the number of cells in the column that match my criteria. But the spreadsheet is quite large and complex with many references within this workpage and others both within this workbook and other workbooks. This approach would entail a great deal of work and could affect existing formulas and references.

Since it is already set up to change the cells background color based on the criteria in existing conditional formatting formulas, I could solve the problem with a formula in a cell that would just count the number of yellow cells in the column. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
