Create RAM-disk in Win2000 environment

By jonjon ·
I would like to make use of the ever growing size of available RAM for fast writing of huge files.

Does any one kown how to create, say a 800MB RAM-disk in a PC with 1GB RAM while WIN2000 is running?

Microsoft's stance on RAM disks with Windows NT/2000 is that is isn't necessary with paging and could actually hinder performance. So, Microsoft doesn't provide a direct way to create a RAM disk.

With that said, there are some 3rd Party RAM Diskprograms out there, like RANDiskNT (http://www.jlajoie.com/ramdskNT/)

Windows offer another way to boost disk (file) i/o using memory mapped files. Disk file can be directly mapped to address space in the memory. MFC supports quite a few classes to achieve it. Please visit msdn.microsoft.com and query Memory Mapped files.
