Creating searchable PDF

By jspaz ·
I am using Adobe Acrobat 6 to scan all documents in my office to PDF. Creating a searchable PDF slows the scanning process dramatically. Is there a product that will allow me to index my scanned documents in batch mode? I don't necessarily need to search accross PDFs, but do need to search from within a PDF. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you use the PDF Create from Scanner option, I believe your result will be searchable text, not just images. What kind of scanner are you using?

There are many factors that will affect the speed of the scanning process. Please give us more detail!!

Well, you have a powerhouse scan system there. We have several Canon combination units but I am not sure of the rated speed. Paper capture is slow. It also is not extremely successful for editable text in some documents in my experience.

Have you checked all of the options for the Create PDF from scanner in the Adobe software? I have Adobe 6.0 Professional on my PC -- maybe I can find something of value and do a couple of tests. I'll add more later today.

We are using a Fujitsu 35 ppm scanner with auto feeder. We use Adobe Acrobat to scan to PDF. Then we do a Paper Capture to make the PDF searchable. The capture process takes 20-30 seconds per page.

Cluster the systems running the application and make use of multiple processors is my answer.

Need more information to be of assistance.

Are the documents all text only? Do they have any graphics images on the pages? Once you have all of the documents scanned and paper capture completed, the documents will be able to be searched from with any PDF.
