Custom Default Profile Snafus

By KahunaNui ·
This relates to XP Pro in a Workgroup environment. In fact, the problems start with the local users profiles in a particular machine.

OK, most of us know how to customise a profile the way you want your [local] users to start with when they first logon. But how do we solve the problem where everybodys My Documents, Favorites and other folders point to the correct places, and not the account that was originally used to copy to the Default User profile?! Every time we find ourselves having to correct a bunch of links, and the same goes for the Mozilla, Opera and other profiles as well. We then have to correct each and every other profile so that these folders point to the correct profiles.

Setup profile for "Test1". Configure it the way I need. Copy to Default User. Creat New User. Logon as New User, New User's My Documents and other stuff points to "Test1" profile and must be changed.

For the life of me I can't remember having this problem with earlier OS's although I've worked mostly with Domains and such. What am I missing here and what's the simplest or easiest way to either fix these links or avoid this problem? I am thinking that it would have something to do with the use of environmental path variables like %username% and such?
