General discussion

I have just received by email a temporary password for TechRepublic. The story is that I had requested it, which I had not. I was encouraged to use TechRepublic's tool to change my password to something more memorable. I have just logged on to TR and got into Discussions without having to use my password. I conclude that I have been sent an attempt to discover and somehow misuse my TR account. I can't imagine any commercial reason for logging into TR under someone else's name, so I suppose it's some TR member who wants to do petty, nasty things.

Contact TR

by LordInfidel In reply to danger

Send them the headers from the e-mail you got.

If it was a html e-mail, send them the source code of the e-mail as well.

Concur - contact TechRepublic

I've never received any password notices from TR. I'd contact them as well. Something sounds rather fishy.

Change your user name

by TheChas In reply to danger

In addition to contacting Tech Republic, I recommend that you change your user name so that it is NOT a valid e-mail address.

That way, no one can mine the TR site and get your e-mail address.
