Data Validation problems

By kspugh ·
My question was answered last week about receiving an error message and stopping input when the amount formulated in my difference column was not equal to zero. It seemed to be the perfect solution, BUT it does not work unless the input to calculate the difference column is already entered. I was testing it on a completed spread sheet. Now that we started a new week, I immediately get the error and it will not allow the correct entry to bring the difference cell to zero. I tried checking and unchecking the 'ignore blank' box and it didn't seem to make a difference either way. I will be glad to email someone the spreadsheet if that will help. I may have to do this a different way. Thanks,

Try only using the Validation on the counter balancing cells

Poster rated this answer. I don't understand what you are saying. I tried to use validation on only the difference column. Then I tried validation on the 4 columns that need to add up to the total, which minus the other total column should equal the difference column which should be zero.
This is a double entry cash journal for recording sales. The first half of a row has cells that record a credit card batch amount, breaking it out by MC VS, DS, Amex and then a total of those cells, which equals the batch report. The second half of this row contains the breakout of the sale, Lodging, Tickets, Sundries. The total of these last columns is compared to the first columns of credit card items in the difference column for a balance. Thanks
