Database vs. Programming

By kmcomp ·
I recently got my AAS Degree in Computer Information Systems. I learned Programming C++, VB, VBA, and HTML. I did very well with a 4.0 GPA.

In learning VBA, i worked alot with Access Databases and loved it. I would like to go back to school and learn more about Databases.

What kind of Classes should I sign up for? I don't want to focus on programming. But I do love Database Mgt. Tables and queries rock!

Should I take Oracle classes or something else?

Any help is appreciated.

Microsoft CTEC / MCDBA

by ghstinshll In reply to Database vs. Programming

Visit a Microsoft Certified Educational Center and become an MCDBA. You'll learn more VB, SQL DBs and plenty of server skills and other skills. This way you'll be able to be a DB admin, yet still have the skills to write a good front-end for it. These skills are rare, and have good rewards...

Make sure the center (whether CTEC-certified, or ATEC, authorized) offers good post-class support in terms of getting ready for your exam. Many colleges are starting to add courses like this into their catalogs so you may even be able to add the cost into your student loans too! There are many "accredited" schools who can do this, but be leary and be careful. Many of these schools are out to take your 10,000 and run, offering no post-class support.
